A Bangkok dinner cruise gives you two hours on the Chao Phraya River (แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา) watching flood-lit temples glide past while you eat — with prices starting at roughly THB 850 per person. Cruises depart nightly from three main piers: ICONSIAM (ไอคอนสยาม), Asiatique The Riverfront (อเชียทีค เดอะ ริเวอร์ฟร้อนท์), and River City Bangkok (ริเวอร์ซิตี้ แบงค็อก). The choice of boat matters enormously: some are floating party venues with buffets and cabaret acts; others are intimate antique barges focused on fine Thai cuisine. Choosing the wrong one is the most common mistake first-time visitors make.

What You'll See on the River

The standard two-hour route passes Wat Arun (วัดอรุณ), the Grand Palace (พระบรมมหาราชวัง), Wat Pho (วัดโพธิ์), and the Memorial Bridge (สะพานพุทธ). All are lit after dark, and Wat Arun's porcelain mosaic towers look entirely different from the water than from the street. If you're planning a full day in this area, our Wat Arun guide and Wat Pho guide cover visiting hours and what to see before you board.

The Chao Phraya is a working river. You'll pass long-tail boats, rice barges, and the Chao Phraya Express passenger ferries running their last evening routes — part of the appeal is that this isn't a sanitised tourist canal.

High-Energy Buffet Cruises

These boats suit groups, families, and anyone who wants entertainment alongside dinner. Expect live bands, laser shows, and cabaret performances.

Chao Phraya Princess Cruise (เจ้าพระยาปริ้นเซส)

The Princess is the most recognised name on the river — large, affordable, and reliable. The international buffet includes seafood on ice, grilled meats, and Thai classics. A live band plays 80s–90s pop and jazz. Departures run at multiple slots from around 7:30 PM from ICONSIAM Piers 2 or 4 and from Asiatique. Tickets are approximately THB 950–1,200, though OTA platforms like Pelago often bring prices down to THB 850.

White Orchid River Cruise (ไวท์ออร์คิด ริเวอร์ ครูซ)

A modern three-deck vessel with enclosed air-conditioned lower floors and a full 360-degree open-air rooftop deck. The gourmet buffet includes grilled river prawns, mussels, and salmon sashimi alongside Thai staples. An onboard cabaret show runs mid-cruise, with a rooftop disco starting around 9:30 PM. Departure is at 7:30 PM or 8:15 PM from ICONSIAM or Asiatique, returning two hours later. Prices typically range from THB 850 to THB 1,100 for standard evening sailings.

Wonderful Pearl Luxury Cruise (วันเดอร์ฟูล เพิร์ล)

One of the largest vessels on the river, the Wonderful Pearl is built for spectacle: state-of-the-art lighting, fountain choreography, a live band, and traditional Thai classical dance performances. It targets travellers who want maximum entertainment alongside a substantial international buffet. Tickets are approximately THB 1,600 per person, with online booking recommended at least 48 hours ahead.

Premium & Romantic Fine Dining Cruises

For couples, special occasions, or travellers who prioritise food over entertainment, these boats deliver a quieter, more curated experience. Bangkok's fine dining scene extends naturally to the river; if you want to compare options on land, our Valentine's Day restaurant guide covers the best upscale options in the city.

Saffron Cruise by Banyan Tree (แซฟฟรอน ครูซ)

An artistic, design-led boat with a hand-painted exterior depicting Thailand's national aquatic symbol. Guests begin on the open-air Moon Deck rooftop bar with artisan cocktails during check-in at 6:30 PM. Sailing runs 7:00–10:00 PM from ICONSIAM Pier 2. The main event is a four-course Thai Gastronomic Journey served in the indoor saloon, using produce from the Banyan Tree Bangkok's kitchens. Expect to pay THB 2,500–3,200 per person.

Manohra Cruises (มโนรา)

Manohra operates on a beautifully restored 70-passenger antique wooden rice barge — a genuinely different experience from every other boat on this list. The atmosphere is quiet, the pace is slow, and the focus is entirely on a modern Thai set menu built around culinary heritage. The barge runs three sailings nightly, all two hours: 5:00–7:00 PM (check-in 4:30 PM), 7:00–9:00 PM (check-in 6:30 PM), and 8:30–10:30 PM (check-in 8:00 PM).

The barge departs from the Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort pier. A free hourly shuttle boat runs from ICONSIAM Pier to the resort between 12:20 PM and 8:20 PM — arrive at least 30 minutes before your intended shuttle. Note that guests on the 8:30 PM round will find the shuttle has finished for the evening; you can either arrive earlier to catch the last shuttle or take a taxi directly to Anantara Riverside. Keep in mind Bangkok traffic can be unpredictable in the evenings, so either way, planning ahead is key. Contact Manohra directly to confirm your slot and logistics.

Packages start around THB 3,500 per person for the standard set menu, rising to THB 5,500 with free-flow wine and champagne.

Apsara Cruise (อัปสรา ครูซ)

Managed by Banyan Tree, Apsara is another intimate teak barge with a focus on high-end Thai cuisine. It sails from ICONSIAM Pier 2 at 6:45 PM (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays). The five-course Thai set menu is priced at THB 4,000 net per person (THB 3,800 on OTAs like Klook); an optional wine pairing adds THB 1,000 per person.

How to Choose the Right Cruise

Royal Princes Cruise at Chao Phraya River, Bangkok
The single most important factor is atmosphere, not price. The table below maps the key decision criteria.

If you want… Book this type
The best value for a first-time visitor Chao Phraya Princess
A rooftop deck and open air White Orchid
A romantic experience Saffron Cruise by Banyan Tree
The most authentic river feeling Manohra or Apsara
A group celebration Wonderful Pearl
A long, leisurely dinner Any barge cruise

Food quality is a secondary consideration on buffet boats — the entertainment is the product. If Thai cuisine is a priority, book a set-menu barge. If you're interested in what authentic Thai street food tastes like before or after your cruise, Bangkok's street food scene and the Michelin-recognised vendors guide are both worth reading.

Getting to the Departure Piers

All three main departure piers are accessible without a taxi.

ICONSIAM pier at night
ICONSIAM Pier is the most common departure point. It connects directly to the BTS Saphan Taksin (สถานีสะพานตากสิน) via the free Chao Phraya Tourist Boat (Orange Flag line), a short ride lasting around 15 minutes. Alternatively, take the BTS Gold Line to ICONSIAM station (ไอคอนสยาม) directly.
Asiatique The Riverfront
Asiatique The Riverfront runs a free shuttle boat from the BTS Saphan Taksin pier every 30 minutes from 4:00 PM to 11:30 PM. The boat takes about 10 minutes.

River City Bangkok is a short walk from the Marine Department Pier at Si Phraya, served by the Chao Phraya Tourist Boat. It is also about 15 minutes on foot from Saphan Taksin BTS.

Arrival note: pier areas at ICONSIAM and Asiatique become heavily congested between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM. Arrive at least 45 minutes before departure to collect your ticket and find the correct boarding gate.

Booking Tips and What to Know Before You Go

ICONSIAM river
Dozens of cruises operate from the same piers at 15-minute intervals — many use near-identical boat names. When you receive your booking confirmation, note the exact boat name, pier number, and boarding gate, then confirm with pier staff on arrival. Walking to the wrong gate is the most common source of missed departures.

Rooftop and upper-deck seating on buffet liners fills up days in advance, especially on weekends and during high season (November–February). If you have an open-air preference, select it explicitly at the time of booking rather than hoping to be seated there on the night.

Most cruises have a smart-casual dress code. Covered shoulders are not required — this is not a temple visit — but beachwear and flip-flops are typically turned away on the premium boats like Saffron and Manohra.

Bangkok's peak season falls between November and February, when evenings are cool and comfortable. The monsoon months (June–October) make rooftop decks uncomfortable or unusable, so buffet liners with enclosed floors are the better choice if you're visiting in low season. Our best time to visit Bangkok guide covers seasonal conditions in detail.
